15" Powerbooks experiencing failed lower memory slot

A number of people have reported a failed lower memory slot on 15" Powerbooks. In these cases, the memory logic board needs to be replaced. Even though the numbers indicate a design flaw, Apple has not yet issued a recall, and is not repairing computers out of warranty without charging for the repair. Owners of 15" Powerbooks are strongly encouraged to monitor their memory slots while under warranty to avoid a costly repair. Many have reported this problem to be a result of upgrading software, and many have reported multiple repairs for the same problem.
