Philadelphia PA - On the heels of its Macworld 2009 presentation in San Francisco, the new Apple centric documentary, “Welcome to Macintosh” will have a special one-time online screening, Monday, January 12th. At 9:30 PM ET on The Digital Lifestyle. Filmmakers Rob Baca and Josh Rizzo will participate in a live chat during the screening where viewers can ask questions about it the movie, the people and the creation process.

“We are thrilled to bring this special screening to the Mac community,” said Ryan Ritchey, founder of The Digital Lifestyle. The film’s Macworld presentation drew and international crowd and included discussions with Apple legends Steve Wozniak, Guy Kawasaki, Ron Wayne, and others.

The Digital Lifestyle is an online video network dedicated to Apple news, rumors, and has the largest collection of Apple-related videos in the world.

“With acceptance in five international film festivals, “Welcome to Macintosh” is reaching its goal of bringing the story of Apple and the Macintosh to the new generation of iPhone and iPod users around the world,” said Rob Baca, Co-director of the film.

The widescreen DVD is NTSC Region Free and includes over three hours of extended interviews, a “making of” featurette, theatrical trailers, behind the scenes photo journal, Mac symbiosis montage, interactive menus and subtitles in English and Spanish. It is available today on FilmBaby, Amazon and the films website.

“The DVD goes far beyond the movie, exploring in-depth the stories and experiences that made the Macintosh what it is today” said Josh Rizzo, co-director of the film. “There are so many great stories to hear, we are very excited to have the opportunity to share them.”

“When we set out to create an online video network dedicated to Apple and its fans, this is just the kind of programming we wanted to find,” says Ritchey.

Robert Baca and Joshua Rizzo are 2002 graduates of Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. Robert resides with his family in Columbus Ohio where works as a producer of industrial and commercial videos.
Milano, Italy - Apimac is proud to introduce Protect Files 1.0, their new file and folder encryption solution for Mac OS X. Developed specifically for those who prefer a dedicated solution, Protect Files will guide the user step by step in the creation and use of Encrypted Spaces. The Encrypted Space is packed up in a convenient and easy interface to unlock and lock the space.

An Encrypted Space is a space protected with a password that resides on the Mac’s hard disk, external disk, or a USB drive, where the user can safely store documents, files, and folders to prevent access from other users. The Space will show up as a volume on the users desktop. When the Space is locked, the content of the space is secure. When the Space is unlocked, the user can copy, move and delete files as she/he would on any normal hard disk.

Protect Files automatically optimizes the enclosed disk image to reclaim unused space every time the Space is used. By default, Protect Files creates 128-bit AES Encrypted Spaces. However for even stronger encryption, the user may optionally specify 256-bit AES encryption in the applications preferences.

Protect Files leverage Mac OS X technology to create disk images with AES encryption, which is one of the most secure encryption methods and widely adopted by many governments. See Security section of Advanced Encryption Standard at Wikipedia to learn more.

San Francisco, CA - The winners of the 2008 Best App Ever Awards have now been announced in the inaugural competition honoring the best iPhone apps and games released in the iTunes App Store.

“The goal of the awards was to help publicize some applications that people may never have seen. Some of the best apps have never been featured on the iTunes front page or in an iPhone TV ad, yet they deserve recognition and publicity for the great work the developers have done.” said Jeff Scott, founder of 148Apps and the Best App Ever Awards.

The mission of the Best App Ever Awards is to help recognize the best iPhone applications released to the iTunes App Store in 2008, not just the best selling. Nominees for each category were determined both by nominees submitted on the Best App Ever site and from a nomination committee. The nomination committee is comprised of industry people including bloggers and iPhone app developers. For a list of the members of the nomination committee, see the site. The name for the Best App Ever Awards comes from a friend of the site who would introduce the latest application he downloaded when showing friends as the best app ever.

The mission of 148Apps is getting the word out about the very best in iPhone OS applications through editorial reviews and news. In addition to the reviews and news, 148Apps keeps track of what’s currently popular, new, trends, and app prices changes in the iTunes App Store.

El SEGUNDO, CA — (January 7, 2009) — At the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, California, hardware and software manufacturer Axiotron® yesterday unveiled the Modbook® Pro, the world’s fastest and largest-screen tablet computer. With its sleek black enclosure made from precision-machined aluminum, powerful graphics processing capabilities and revolutionary Synergy™ Touch technology, the Modbook Pro redefines the tablet computing experience.

An aftermarket modification of the unibody Apple® MacBook® Pro computer, Axiotron’s Modbook Pro offers a 15.4-inch pen-enabled display with a pixel resolution of 1440×900 WXGA, and features a surface layer of the company’s etched, paper-emulating ForceGlass™ for optimum drawing and writing comfort. The screen assembly is flush-mounted in the top bezel, providing a completely level drawing and writing surface and maximizing the Modbook Pro’s on-screen workspace.

In addition to the RF-based pen digitizer components, the Modbook Pro also feature Axiotron’s Synergy Touch, a revolutionary technology that — unlike any other touchscreen computer — employs touch functionality primarily in support of the pen input. Synergy’s user interface, Quicktouch™, appears on the screen as translucent overlays of buttons and pads, permitting users to enter text or keyboard shortcuts with the “alt,” “option” or “command” keys to directly modify pen clicks.

While the Axiotron Modbook Pro completely replaces the original Apple MacBook Pro’s enclosure, it leaves the main system components unmodified, maintaining 100% compatibility with both the system hardware as well as the Mac OS® X operating system. The voided Apple warranty will be replaced by Axiotron’s one-year Modcare® Hardware Warranty, covering the complete hardware solution top to bottom.

As another first, customers can order their Modbook Pro with a partitioned drive preinstalled with Windows Vista® Business Edition. The Modbook Pro also comes with Axiotron’s Quickapps™ suite, including Quicktouch (the pen-supporting touch user interface), Quickclicks™ (on-screen software keyboard and shortcuts), Quickflip (screen rotation utility), and Quickscript (advanced handwriting recognition).

The Axiotron Modbook Pro is compatible with all 15.4-inch unibody Apple MacBook Pro systems, hosting up to a 2.8GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, up to 320GB of storage on a 7200-rpm hard drive or 128GB of storage on a solid-state drive, and an NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT graphics subsystem.

The Modbook Pro is slated to ship in May/June 2009. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for an Axiotron Modbook Pro built from a customer-supplied Apple MacBook Pro base system via Axiotron Modservice™ starts at $3,049.
