iPhone finally coming to Canada?

There have been rumors of the iPhone coming to Canada almost from the beginning, but now Rogers has confirmed that it will be available some time this year, although no date was specified. Rogers' First Quarter Financial Statement contains the following item:

Wireless announced it had reached an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year. Information regarding device availability and service plans will be announced at a later date.

Apple to Canada: Drop Dead [updated]

Appletell reports that the iPhone is to be released in Mexico later this year. Although the iPhone is already available in several European countries, Apple still hasn't announced a release in Canada. Much of the blame can be placed on Canadian carriers such as Rogers that don't offer flat rate data plans and charge a lot more than US carriers.

Update: a petition has been launched requesting Apple & Rogers to bring the iPhone to Canada.
