First native OS X web log file analyzer available as preview

Kiel, Germany (December 09, 2004) - turingart is pleased to announce the immediate availability of TrendyMac 0.9.2, the one and only native GUI based OS X web logfile analyzer.

The current release 0.9.2 adds hierarchical views, a new special report feature based on regular expressions, is diacritical character compliant (e.g. for French and German logs), adds excludes for referrers, allows to restrict reports based on a defined period of time and knows more about search engine queries.

TrendyMac is a web server logfile analyzer developed for OS X users, who need to evaluate logfiles in a simple yet powerful way.

Other solutions live on a web server and require complex configuration. TrendyMac lives on an OS X system, evaluates logfiles and presents an interactive view of analysis results. Since the application doesn’t create HTML pages, but standard Mac windows and controls, analysis results can be further evaluated using filters, sort options and ‘Focus on’ features.

TrendyMac is the first native OS X solution of its kind.
A MacOS 9 version is available on request.

Note that the app as downloaded from the site only processes the first 3000 lines of log.

That’s about 10 minutes of activity on my site, which makes it somewhat difficult to work out whether the app is any good for my needs.

Hey ho - back to good old Analog…

It’s cute, but I’ll stick with Summary. It’s runs as a command line app, but has a WebBrowser accessible front end. My daily log files are about 400MB and I need to do quite complex analysis…doesn’t look like this will cut it.

Well, please note, that TrendyMac is still a preview release. Not too much later this year, turingart will release an updated version. The purpose of this preview is to initialize a request driven development: You say, what you’d like to see and we check to implement it.
Anyway: More features will be implemented soon.

What’s the point? Too slow? Not enough report types? Not enough confi options?

Yes, you are right! We missed a note regarding the 3000-lines restriction in this posting.

We received a huge number of requests regarding a time-limited but full featured release. This will be implemented soon.

    Understood! Your are right!

    Some features to be implemented:

    - Embedded download of logs using FTP/HTTP
    - DB-based DNS cache
    - More and refined reports (Pathes through you site. entry/exit point analysis, more)
    - Better looking reports containing more details and graphics
    - DB-based incremental analysis

    Kinds,

    turingart
