Get 13 free songs from iTunes Music Store

Apple has a promotion in which new iPod owners receive an iTunes Music Sampler with 13 free songs from iTunes Music Store. If you already own an iPod, you can also get the same free music.

Using the iPod Software Updater, restore your iPod to factory original condition (NOTE: this will delete ALL data on your iPod, so back up any data not installed via iTunes or iSync). Reconnect your iPod, and when you set up the ‘new’ iPod in iTunes, the music store screen will come up with an option to download 13 free songs.

Yesterday I erased & restored my iPod after trying Linux on it. When I set it up in iTunes, I got the free sampler option. There are two buttons: create a new account, or download the tracks with an existing account.

this link should take you straight to the sampler in the iTMS without having to restore.

I just tried this out. Wiped the iPod clean, then exitted the Updater, ejected, and re-attached. iTunes dutifully began restoring my library, and the iTMS gave me the option to download 13 “Free songs”.

What isn’t mentioned in the article, or anywhere else that I can find, is that you don’t get to choose 13 songs. Instead, it’s a static “album” of “MoTown Hits” or something like that. Since I’m not a fan, this did me no good.

Doesn’t seem to work here in Canada…

Typical… we still don’t have free music Tuesdays, either.

I’m listening to it now and most of those tracks suck. I wouldn’t have bought any of them.

I used a link (not sure if it’s the one above, and now I can’t remember where I found it), and was allowed to download it even though I don’t actually own an iPod. I had to create an account at the iTunes store (which means I had to give them my credit card info), but since I expect to be getting an iPod after next week’s MacWorld, that was OK with me.

The music does, indeed, say Motown, but none of the tracks bear any resemblance to Motown.

Some are good, such as Jamie Cullum’s All At Sea; some are pretty lame. But the free offer comes with a double-your-money-back if you aren’t satisfied, so I don’t see any reason to complain.

    You’re not missing much.

FYI, I just forced myself to sit through the sampler, and… ditto.

the 13 “free songs” are a sampler of really bad songs. You dont even get to choose the songs. I recommend looking for something else.
