Apple announces $499 Mac Mini

Apple has announced the long rumored “headless iMac” at today’s Macworld Expo keynote. The Mac Mini measures only 6.5″ wide and 2″ tall with a 1.25 or 1.42 GHz G4 processor. It includes FireWire 400, USB 2.0, Ethernet, VGA, and DVI ports.

The Mac Mini ships with 256M of RAM, upgradable to 1G, a slot loading Combo drive, and a 40G or 80G hard drive. Internal Bluetooth, Airport Extreme, and a SuperDrive (DVD-RW/CD-RW) are available as build to order options. No keyboard or mouse is included.

The 1.25 GHz model with a 40G drive sells for $499, and the 1.42 GHz model with an 80G drive sells for $599. The Mac Mini will be available on Jan. 22.
