Apple releases Flash-based iPod Shuffle
Apple has released the tiny flash-based iPod Shuffle, now available from the Apple Store in 512MB for $99 and 1G capacity for $149. The 512MB model holds 150 songs, while the 1G model hods 250 songs.
The iPod Shuffle connects to a USB port and also doubles as a USB flash drive. Unlike a standard iPod which supports multiple playlists, the iPod Shuffle is loaded from a single playlist in iTunes. The playlist can either be played in order or randomized.
The iPod lacks a display. The only controls are a set of buttons for play/pause, volume up/down, previous, and next, with a switch on the back to play in order or shuffle.
