Fancy giving Apple’s competitors a head start in copying its products. And for dampening the surprise during Steve Jobs’ keynote. Nicholas Ciarelli might as well be working for Dell. He is not a victim in all of this, but someone who has undermined the work of people at Apple, while helping the cause of its rivals.

You all have a very interesting world view to say that Apple is entitled to beat up what amounts to a journalist for doing what journalists do best: scoop a story.
Betrayal? Please. “String him up?” Crikey! “Working for Dell?” Please, competitively speaking, Apple is not even a bump on a thorn in Dell’s well-calloused foot.
Apple may be able to claim moral high ground, but the PR value of this is nosediving for them. Beating up a college kid for managing to ferret out what Apple designates as trade secrets is *not* good for business. Hiding behind the “innovation” argument is no better than Microsoft’s tactics over the years…

Sure blowing the Mac Mini a couple of weeks before MacWorld really helped Dell didn’t it? Without Ciarelli, they’d never have thought of producing a cheap computer would they? I can’t believe the shit some people come out with.

I don’t have all the facts of the case yet, but what obligation does Nick or any reporter have to a for-profit company to withhold such information. He didn’t sign any non-disclosure and he didn’t put any soldiers’ lives at risk for divulging such *sensitive* information. So Apple’s party didn’t go exactly as planned, but to bring the hammer down on someone who doesn’t have the financial backing to fight such an unjustified suit is just wrong. Every MacWorld we go through this same game of guess what’s behind door 1 and Apple just took the fun out of it. They will not make one less dime because of Nick yet they are going to financially cripple him. Shame.
