Tiger freezes with MAXTOR FireWire/USB

I have an external drive on wich i stored my Panter installation. Former problems could be tamed be installing a patch that maxtor offered on their website.

The problems were slow data transfer and system freeze.

Now i have the same problems with Tiger. But they cannot be solved by installing
onetouch_os_x_update_sept04_2003.pkg.sit
