Apple introduces faster iBooks & enhances Mac Mini

Apple today introduced new faster iBooks and made a few enhancements to the Mac mini.

The new iBook G4, starting at $999 now feature built-in Airport Extreme & Bluetooth as well as the scolling trackpad & sudden motion sensor introduced in the latest PowerBook G4 revision.

The following two standard configurations are now available:

1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 iBook, weighing 4.9 pounds, for $999

  • 12.1-inch (diagonal) active-matrix TFT display
  • 512MB DDR SDRAM expandable to up to 1.5GB maximum memory
  • a 40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
  • AirPort Extreme 54 Mbps 802.11g WiFi wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
  • two USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 400
  • VGA video out, S-video and composite video out support
  • 56K v.92 modem, Ethernet (10/100 BASE-T)
  • a slot-load Combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) drive

1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 iBook, weighing 5.9 pounds, for $1,299

  • 14.1-inch (diagonal) active-matrix TFT display
  • 512MB DDR SDRAM expandable to up to 1.5GB maximum memory
  • a 60GB Ultra ATA hard drive
  • AirPort Extreme 54 Mbps 802.11g WiFi wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
  • two USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 400
  • VGA video out, S-video and composite video out support
  • 56K v.92 modem, Ethernet (10/100 BASE-T)
  • a slot-load SuperDrive (DVD+/-R/CD-RW) drive

The Mac Mini now features 512M RAM standard and all 1.42 GHz models now have Bluetooth & Airport Extreme built-in. The three standard models now feature a 1.25 GHz G4 with a 40GB drive & Combo drive for $499; 1.42 GHz with 80GB drive & combo drive for $499; and 1.42 GHz with 80GB drive & SuperDrive for $699.
