Following DEVONthink Professional’s footsteps, DEVONthink Personal inherits the great iPod and web site export capabilities of its professional brother and also features the comfortable full screen mode that allows users to view documents and web sites without any disturbing interface elements. Local documents can also be edited in full screen. “This makes DEVONthink a perfect writer’s tool”, says Eric Boehnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies, LLC.
DEVONthink Personal 1.9.5 now supports curly quotes for the English, French, German and Danish languages, knows about the new multimedia file formats of QuickTime 7 and allows to open documents in any external application suitable for their type. A convenient “Open With” submenu presents all applications that can open the selected document(s), similar to the Finder. Internal changes make it also faster and more stable, and a completely rewritten user documentation explains all menu commands, views, windows, panels, drawers and preferences throrougly.
DEVONnote shares all internal performance and stability improvements with DEVONthink Personal as well as the support for smart quotes.
Finally both applications now come with gorgeous new icons that makes them stand out and pick up the DEVONian period theme that gave DEVONtechnologies its name. DEVONthink Personal’s icon resembles the DEVONthink Professional’s ammonite, DEVONnote appears as a nicely rendered shell. “Our new devonian period fossiles theme visualizes the powers behind DEVONtechnologies: rock-like stability, perfection and style as well as the departure into a new age”, so Eric Boehnisch-Volkmann. “Also, it shows graphically that our applications are tools for different tasks but are integrated with each other very tight.”
Both applications run on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (some features are only available on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) and are immediately available for downloading from www.devon-technologies.com. DEVONthink Personal must be purchased in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop for US$ 40, DEVONnote for US$ 20 after the evaluation period. The updates are free for all registered users. DEVONthink is also available together with DEVONagent as “Infoworker’s Bundle” for US$ 65. DEVONthink Personal users are entitled to upgrade to DEVONthink Professional for just the price difference of US$ 35 until the end of October, 2005.
