Coeur d’Alene (Idaho, USA), 15th of September, 2005 – DEVONtechnologies LLC updates its flagship product DEVONthink Professional to version 1.0.1 with new features, improvements and, of course, some bug fixes.
With DEVONthink Professional 1.0.1 users can now drag not only documents but also whole groups to the Finder or other applications. Improvements in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger makes this possible and reduce the need to use the export menu command. Opening documents in external applications has also been simplified, a Finder-like “Open With” submenu lists all applications that are able to open a selected document.
Sheets and records can now be copied or dragged to other applications and are there treated like simple text, which simplifies the data exchange with 3rd party applications. Multiple sheets or records can be merged into one long text document, too. Also, a new “See Selected Text” contextual menu command lists documents content-wise related to a selected text passage, and an improved RSS feed support allows to mix “live” feeds seamlessly with local documents. This makes DEVONthink Professional a flexible news feed reader as well.
On the scripting side, the already extensive AppleScript suite has been further extended, the Automator actions have been updated and the provided scripts have been revised for higher reliability. Three new example workflows help users automate DEVONthink Professional and connect it to other applications.
All mail import scripts now create much better formatted documents, and DEVONthink Professional 1.0.1 imports complete Apple Mail or Microsoft Entourage mailboxes including all sub-mailboxes while recrating the original mailbox structure within the database. “The mail importing scripts make DEVONthink Professional a highly performant, versatile e-mail archiving tool for all major email applications: Apple Mail, Microsoft Entourage, BareBones Mailsmith, Qualcomm Eudora and Powermail”, points out Eric Boehnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies LLC.
Additional internal enhancements include an improved accuracy of the “See …” contextual menu command, an HTML parser more compatible to wrong HTML code and the possibility to download already downloaded web sites again with different settings. The French localization has been overhauled, too, and a Danish localization added. Many minor changes make DEVONthink Professional 1.0.1 also faster and more stable.
DEVONthink Professional 1.0.1 runs on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (some features are only available on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) and is immediately available for downloading from www.devon-technologies.com. The free trial version allows 150 hours of non-continuous use and must be licensed after the end of the trial period for US$ 75 (introductory price). Users of DEVONthink Personal are entitled to upgrade for only the price difference of US$ 35 until the end of October, 2005. DEVONthink Professional is also available with DEVONagent as “Infoworker’s Pro Bundle” for US$ 99.
