How to enable Safe Sleep on your Mac

Andrew Escobar has posted an interesting & informative article telling how to enable hibernation or Safe Sleep on many Mac models. I’ve tried it and verified that it works on my 2004 model 15″ PowerBook G4 (1.5 GHz). Note that it requires OS X 10.4.3.

Safe Sleep, which is similar to Windows’ Hibernate feature, writes the contents of RAM to the hard drive when going to sleep. If the computer loses power, it can then restore the same state when it restarts. You can also optionally have it go directly to safe sleep, which powers down the system completely and doesn’t continue to drain the battery as regular sleep does.
