LikeMac Group has released Disk Order 1.5.6, the latest update of a utility for managing files, folders and archives that is designed to be a Total Commander equivalent in Macintosh world. Many omissions and bugs have been fixed in this version, making the application more stable and better performing.

In version 1.5.6 LikeMac has added to Disk Order the ablility of background FTP download and upload that allows user to work with the application while downloads are in progress. Also, FTP support now has a special feature for editing files right on FTP server that may be very useful for web programmers or other people who often need to edit files on servers. Now they don’t need to download files, edit them and upload them back, because Disk Order makes all this for them: the user just opens the file right on the server, makes the corrections and as soon as he/she saves it, Disk Order uploads it back instantly.

In this release Disk Order supports Spotlight comments for files and folders - the feature that help users to find items on their system faster by means of Spotlight techonology. Apart of this, Disk Order has tabs that are displayed above each of file lists and used to switch between different folder/archive locations with just a click, so that there’s no need to browse. Tabs also can give users other benefits. For example, the user can make the program to automatically open a separate tab when he/she inserts a CD or connects to a network drive. Also Disk Order may be customized to open new tab when some FTP session is started and close it when the FTP is disconnected.

Disk Order is a utility that gives users the ability to manage not only files and folders but archives. Now the user does not have to open separate application when he/she needs to extract some files from an archive. The application allows seamlessly enter and browse archives contents like virtual folders, without extracting all files. User just double-clicks the archive and he/she is inside it. It is the way like the user would enter a plain folder. After that, files and folders may be extracted by dragging them out.

The program differs from other file managers in Macintosh world by its capability to manage files without mouse. The user can customize his own shortcuts to make the application more comfortable. This may be helpful not only for Mac switchers but for notebook owners who dislikes using touchpad when operating files. Also, Disk Order offers advanced file manager features, such as built-in FTP client, advanced archives support, command line and file previewer.

Disk Order is intended for everyone who need to make a lot of different file operations in a single application. Ability to copy, move files, launch applications, preview pictures and connect to FTP servers reduces the amount of applications the user need to run at the same time when working on a particular task. Having customizable appearance and user friendly tabbed interface it makes the work fast and effective.
