IBM’s chip production woes cause Xbox 360 shortage

Once again, IBM is having problems meeting demand for their chips. Remember their G5 production troubles that prompted Apple’s switch to Intel CPUs? The same thing seems to be happening now with their Cell processor, used in the Xbox 360.

Microsoft says Xbox 360 shortages are strictly due to a shortage of chips. The company says the shortage is such that a decision to delay launch was seriously considered. Apple’s switch to Intel CPUs is starting to look better all the time.

Read the article. This isn’t affecting the Xbox 360 one bit. Why? Because the Xbox 360 doesn’t use the cell processor. Who does? Read teh article. It’s Sony. This will affect the upcomming Sony Playstation 3, which does use the Cell processor.
