My Dream App Announces Winners

BOSTON, Massachusetts - My Dream App, the Mac competition searching for the next killer app, announced its three winners today.

After a close race to the finish, three ideas emerged on top garnering the most support from the public: Atmosphere, a dynamic desktop representing the weather by Cameron Westland, Portal, a file sychronization utility with wormhole visualizations by Farzad Sadjadi, and Cookbook, a full featured recipe and meal management application by Michael Yuan. The three winners will have their ideas realized as Macintosh shareware applications, receive a free Macbook, and earn royalties on future sales.

“I was very surprised and delighted in the final rounds to see Atmosphere u-turn from near elimination to first place. I look forward to working with the MDA crew in making Atmosphere top notch!” first place finisher Westland said.

Over the past month, contestants have had to brave weekly elimination rounds while continually demonstrating to the voting public why their app idea should advance in the contest.

“What surprised me most about the contest was how much work and heart our contestants put into their ideas. What they created over the duration of the competition was truly amazing,” said My Dream App creator Phill Ryu.

More than 40,000 people cast votes over the contest’s five rounds, guided by judge commentary from celebrity judges including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, New York Times tech columnist David Pogue, This Week in Tech host Leo Laporte and Microsoft executive J Allard. Voters also received over $1,000,000 worth of free software from the contest’s organizers.

The My Dream App team will now begin development on the winning ideas. Information on the winners and developmental progress can be found on http://mydreamapp.com.

the problem with the Atmosphere is that it will be developed by Jason from Unsanity.

This software is doomed before it released. The amount of bugs, total absence of support from developer and their constant crying about Apple will keep me away for one. Half of their apps are STILL not even close to be Universal….
