DEVONtechnologies and ExactCODE Announce Cooperation
Coeur d’Alene (Idaho, USA), March 14, 2007 – DEVONtechnologies, LLC and the Berlin, Germany, based scanner software manufacturer ExactCODE announce that both companies will cooperate in marketing the high-end scan application ExactScan and Avision Mac driver together with DEVONthink Professional Office, DEVONtechnologies’ flagship document and information management application. In addition, Avision will demo DEVONthink Professional Office integrated with its auto-feeder scanners at CeBIT, Hannover, Germany, in hall 1, booth C02.
ExactScan together with ExactCODE’s TWAIN data source for Avision Scanners enables DEVONthink Professional Office to serve as the front-end application for the fast automatic document feeder scanners from Avision and OEM manufacurers. DEVONthink Professional Office accepts the incoming scans from the ExactScan application that drives the scanner, and automatically performs OCR on the document. The final document, an image PDF preserving the original layout with a hidden text layer, is stored in the DEVONthink Professional Office database and can then be filed, organized, or shared with co-workers. The built-in web server makes searching for a document as easy as using a Web search engine and also allows Windows or Linux users to access the database for searches.
ExactScan is a high-end capture application with unique features such as a number of on-the-fly optimizations, detection and removal of empty pages, sophisticated dust and noise removal as well as built-in automatic thresholding. ExactScan works with any TWAIN compatible flatbed or auto-feeder scanner. Together with the ExactCODE’s TWAIN data source for Avision Scanners it supports the full range of fast document scanners available from Avision, beginning with the desktop scanner AV121, the FB6080E book scanner, up the A3-sized AV8350 capable of delivering 100 duplex images per minute.

As a first step in this new cooperation, ExactCODE will deliver a free trial copy of DEVONthink Professional Office on every driver CD. In addition, purchasers of the ExactScan/TWAIN Data Source for Avision Scanners receive a discount of 25 percent on the purchase price of US$ 149.95 for DEVONthink Professional Office. The next release of DEVONthink Professional Office will also deliver direct support for the ExactScan application similar to the Fujitsu ScanSnap support already available.
ExactCODE will also include DEVONthink Professional Office in its online shop opening end of March, 2007. Finally, Avision will showcase DEVONthink Professional Office connected to one of its auto-feeder scanners at this year’s CeBIT, the world largest IT and Communications event, held in Hannover, Germany, from March 15 to 21, 2007. Avision is located in hall 1, booth C02.

It can be downloaded for free from www.devon-technologies.com and can be test-driven for free for 150 hours of runtime until it needs to be properly licensed; the email import function of DEVONthink Professional Office is limited to 200 messages per day and the OCR function is limited to 20 documents per day during the trial period. ExactScan and the TWAIN Data Source for Avision Scanners require Mac OS X 10.4 or later. They are available as add-on at most Avision resellers and will be directly sold in ExactCODE’s online shop which opens end of March, 2007.
