Parallels, maker of award-winning desktop virtualization solutions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, today announced the Parallels Technology Network (PTN), an online community for users, as well as developers using Parallels virtualization technology to deliver their software in self-contained virtual appliances.

With PTN, users and developers will have access to a wealth of information related to Parallels virtualization technology. In addition, developers can make their software available to Parallels users as virtual appliances. Available to any computer user or software company, the PTN offers various levels of participation, all of which are completely free. These include: Public Level, VA Partner Level, and Technology Partner Level.

PTN currently includes:

  • Parallels Virtual Appliances Directory – the official list of virtual appliances that run under Parallels Desktop for Mac or Parallels Workstation. To contribute to the Directory,
    submit
    your virtual appliance for approval. If it meets our requirements, we will list your virtual appliance in the Directory so users worldwide can download and use it.

  • Parallels Knowledge Base – a library comprised of documents on a wide range of topics regarding Parallels products. The Knowledge Base includes product guides, white papers, FAQs, and more.
  • Parallels Community Forum – a place to discuss topics related to Parallels Virtualization Technology. This forum focuses on the best practices of using virtual appliances, tips and tricks for creating virtual appliances, and an open venue in which to candidly discuss virtualization and Parallels technology.

Meanwhile, VMWare filed a Form S-1 Registration Statement with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission relating to the initial public offering (“IPO”) of Class A Common Stock of VMware.

VMware will be offering approximately 10% of its Class A Common Stock in the IPO. VMware and EMC expect the IPO will unlock more of VMware’s value for EMC shareholders, as well as strengthen VMware’s ability to attract and retain the software industry’s top talent and reinforce EMC’s commitment to VMware’s strategy of platform neutrality.
