Synology launches the DS1621xs+, a NAS with a dual-core Intel Xeon processor — Apple World Today

Synology is launching the DS1621xs+, a NAS [network attached storage] with a dual-core Intel Xeon processor, built-in 10GbE connectivity and M.2 slots for SSD caching without sacrificing drive bays. 

Speaking of drive bays DS1621xs+ is six bays by defaults and expandable up to 16-bays for a total raw storage capacity of 256TB. The NAS shares the Xeon processor found in other Synology data center devices. It offers over 3.1 GB/s sequential read and 1.8 GB/s sequential write performance. It’s also paired with ECC memory, Btrfs and other comprehensive data backup options.

Six internal 3.5-inch bays enable up to 96TB of raw storage capacity. If users need more space, the DS1621xs+ can expand to 256 TB, on-demand, by adding on two additional DX517 expansion units for a total of 16 bays. The DS1621xs+ also includes two M.2 2280 slots for NVMe cache.

The ability to add an additional 10GbE NIC can speed up high-resolution network rendering projects or provide even faster transfer performance for multiple virtual machines, according to the folks at Synology. DS1621xs+ is available today from Synology resellers and partners at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$1599.99.
