Apple expecting big sales of its first ‘Apple Silicon’ Mac laptops — Apple World Today

Apparently, Apple expects big sales for the devices. The Nikkei Asian Review claims there’s an initial production order for 2.5 million Apple Silicon laptops. It’s It’s expected to be followed by an order for unspecified other MacBook designs that are believed to be due in the second quarter of 2021.

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) has predicted that the first Apple Silicon Mac would be a revival of the 12-inch MacBook. However, recent rumors say the line-up will include a 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the same design as current models. Admittedly, this makes sense as it would keep the Mac laptop line with two models (Air and Pro) rather than three (Air, Pro, and just MacBook).

Apple Silicon is, per Apple, “world-class custom silicon to deliver industry-leading performance and powerful new technologies” as the tech giant phases out Intel processors in its Mac line. It involves customized ARM technology, as well as Apple’s own System on a Chip.
