Rumor: Apple planning an even thinner (!) MacBook Air with MagSafe charger : Apple World Today

[ad_1]

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning an even thinner MacBook Air with a magnetic charger that will arrive in the second half of this year — or perhaps 2022.

Gurman says the laptop will sport Apple’s laptop MagSafe charging technology — not the wireless charging system introduced with the iPhone 12 line-up. With the 2016 MacBook Pro line, Apple ditched the MagSafe connector, which disengaged with the slightest amount of pressure. This saved many Mac laptops from a disastrous plummet when someone accidentally snagged the power cable.  How much thinner can the Air get? Gurman says that Apple may shrink the border around the screen (which will remain at 13 inches). The current MacBook Air is just over half an inch thick at its thickest point and weighs 2.8 pounds.

Hmmm. How much thinner can the MacBook Air get? Much thinner and it will fold like a sheet of paper.

Gurman adds that plans for a 15-inch MacBook Pro have been discontinued or put on hold.

I think Apple needs to work on its product naming scheme. If Gurman is correct, there will be two different types of MagSafe chargers. And then there’s Apple TV (the app), Apple TV (the set-top box), and Apple TV+ (the streaming service).
