M3 MacBook Pro: Everything you need to know

Macworld

Updated 03/30/23: Now that Apple’s “Scary Fast” event is over, we know exactly what to expect from the MacBook Pro’s M3 upgrade. This article has been updated throughout to reflect the announcements.

Apple makes two different sizes of MacBook Pro: a 14-inch, and a 16-inch model. The older 13-inch model with Touch Bar has now been dropped from the lineup. The 14-inch and the 16-inch MacBook Pro are available with the new M3 Pro and M3 Max, and the 14-inch model can even be had with the base M3 now.

M3 MacBook Pro: Release date

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are available for preorder now from Apple.com.

All models will be available on November 7, except for the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max, which will start shipping on November 9 in most configurations.

13-inch MacBook Pro

The 13-inch MacBook Pro has been discontinued, and with it, the Touch Bar is now dead. You can still buy remaining stock of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 at some retailers and Apple’s Certified Refurbished store still has plenty of refurbished models for sale.

M3 MacBook Pro: Design and Features

The M3 MacBook Pro features no new design changes from the M2 models, with one exception: the M3 Pro and M3 Max versions of the MacBook Pro are now available in a sleek new Space Black color, as well as Silver. If you buy the base M3 14-inch model, you still have only Space Grey and Silver to choose from.

The display did get a tiny improvement, with SDR brightness now up to 600 nits from 500 nits in previous models.

Beyond the slightly brighter display, the features remain unchanged. The battery life figures from Apple are the same as the M2 generation, size and weight is the same, the camera, mics, speakers, ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth–it’s all just like the MacBook Pro with M2.
