These are the iPhones and iPads that may get iOS 18

Later this year she might be running iOS 18 on that waterproof iPhone XR.

Apple hasn’t said anything about it and it is too early to call, but a recent report citing reliable sources claimed that the following iPhones and iPads will be able to run iOS 18/iPad OS 18.

What’s interesting about the list is that these allegedly include every iPhone capable of supporting iOS 17, which means Apple still offers the best backward compatibility and software update support in the entire smartphone industry.

Though no doubt there’s a regulator somewhere who wants to legislate for more mass consumption of disappearing natural resources, but I digress.

Is your iPhone’s name on the list?

So, without further ado, here are all the iPhones an earlier MacRumors report said would support iOS 18 when it ships:

iPhone XR
iPhone XS
iPhone XS Max
iPhone SE (2nd Gen)
iPhone SE (3rd Gen)
iPhone 11 series
iPhone 12 series
iPhone 13 series
iPhone 14 series
iPhone 15 series

This is great news for iPhone users, of course, as it means you can expect a lot that’s new and good to come to your device later this year – no wonder the resale value on these devices is so very high.

The iPad power generation

But for iPad users, news is a little sadder as it seems iPads running A10 Fusion and A10X Fusion chips, which include the second-generation iPad Pro 12.9. Having said that, you’re still looking at a six-year support window and iPad OS 17 will gain the usual additional year’s support once iOS 18 appears.

That means the following iPads will be supported:

iPad (2020 and newer)
iPad Air (2019 and newer)
iPad mini (2019 and newer
iPad Pro (2018 and newer)

We can’t be certain any of these rumors are correct, of course. We will probably learn the real situation once the WWDC 2024 keynote speech takes place in June.
