Apple approves LG and Samsung to supply OLED panels for iPhone 16 Pro
Alongside rival Samsung Display, LG Display has secured Apple’s approval to supply OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro.
In the past, LG Display received approval months later than Samsung Display and when the phones were in mass production, limiting the number of units it could supply.
Apple first approves the product then approves it for mass production.
Samsung Display is the supplier of OLED panels for all four models in the iPhone 16 series, while LG Display will be supplying only the two Pro models. BOE is also aiming to supply OLED panels for the two lower-tier models.
The South Korean display panel makers are also awaiting approval for OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

MacDailyNews Take: Good news for LG Display (and Apple’s component costs) as Lee notes that in 2023, LG Display received approval for iPhone 15 series months later than Samsung Display which allowed Samsung Display to win more orders and sell its panels at a high price, but this year LG Display will be on equal footing in the competition to supply iPhone displays.
