Apple Music artists now get radio play monitoring

Apple makes tools creatives use to do creative things

In a move that promises to be very useful to musicians offering tracks via Apple Music, the company just added powerful global radio monitoring to the Artist Analytics dashboard it provides.

What this means is that acts offering music via the service now also get monitoring of over 40,000 radio stations worldwide. That’s useful as it will help artists understand airplay habits, and also gives them a line of insight into any potential payment claims.

The system works with Shazam music recognition technology, and means Radio Spins is now a key metric. Data is broken down by song, station, and geographic location, providing a clear view of which tracks are receiving the most airplay. All this data sits in the Trends tab in the artist analytics section.

“Radio Spins is integrated throughout the Apple Music for Artists experience. Monitor more than 40,000 radio stations from over 200 countries and regions with Radio Spins to see which stations are giving your music airtime. Visit the Trends page to explore detailed data, such as the stations that are spinning your music the most or what songs from your catalog get the most plays across all our monitored stations. See the Places page to find out where your music is spinning across global airwaves,” says Apple on its Apple Music for Artists FAQ page.
