New iPad mini could be imminent as supplies ‘constrained’ at Apple retail stores
Apple’s current sixth-generation iPad mini comes in an array of finishes, including space gray, pink, purple, and starlight.
Apple’s iPad mini is facing supply shortages at multiple retail stores, hinting at a potential product refresh. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg News reported that the company internally considers the iPad mini to be “constrained,” suggesting that a new model may be in the works.
Many Apple stores are low on stock of the iPad mini in several configs, while the device is considered “constrained” internally within Apple, I’m told. That *could* be a sign a new one is coming. It hasn’t been updated since 2021. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it updated for AI.
The current sixth-generation iPad mini was launched in September 2021.
Rumors have circulated about a seventh-generation iPad mini, which could be released this year. The upcoming model is expected to feature a more powerful A17 Pro chip or better to support Apple Intelligence, along with upgraded front and rear cameras. Additional updates, such as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, are also anticipated.
Apple recently announced a fall event on September 9th, expected to be primarily focused on the iPhone 16 series, new Apple Watch models, and AirPods. While it’s uncertain if the iPad mini refresh will be included in this event, there’s a possibility it could be unveiled at a separate fall announcement.
MacDailyNews Take: Given Apple’s plans for multiple M4 Macs this year, a second event seems likely. Rumors point to refreshed MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models with M4 chips. An iPad with a similar A-series chip would align with these announcements, especially considering the recent updates to the iPad Pro and iPad Air with M4 and M2 chips, respectively.
