At least 4GB of iPhone storage required for Apple Intelligence

When fully released, Apple Intelligence will combine the power of Apple-built generative models with personal context while taking an extraordinary step forward for privacy.

As iOS 18.1 approaches, it may be time to free up some space on your iPhone for Apple Intelligence. The new AI features will require 4GB of storage at launch, but this requirement may increase as additional features are released.

Apple’s documentation states that Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later. However, the initial storage requirement of 4GB is just a starting point. As more AI models are introduced, the storage needed could potentially double, reaching up to 8GB or more.

Ryan Christoffel for 9to5Mac:

According to an Apple-published document included in the latest iOS 18.1 beta, Apple Intelligence will have a specific storage requirement when it debuts.

Here’s what the document states, as found in a section labeled ‘Supported Devices’:

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later. iPhone devices need 4GB of storage*.

You may have noticed the asterisk at the end of the quote. That’s because 4GB is just a starting place for the initial set of AI features. The footnote at the end of Apple’s documentation notes: “Storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out.”

MacDailyNews Take: As usual with Apple devices like iPhones and iPads, get as much internal storage as your budget allows!
