Microsoft Intune can now manage Apple Intelligence
The latest in a raft of Apple enterprise-related news items, Microsoft has confirmed its Intune MDM will now enable admins to configure and control availability of Apple Intelligence on managed Apple devices.
Apple Intelligence gains InTune device management
The new controls are quite granular, in that IT can customize which tools can be used to suit the needs of their environment, though there is a caveat around BYOD devices.
Microsoft’s Intune Support Team explains:
“For Apple managed supervised devices (ADE enrolled iOS/iPadOS and all macOS), Intune supports new settings for Apple Intelligence in the Restrictions payload and Math Settings declaration. These settings require the device to be supervised. For personal or bring-your-own (BYO) iOS /iPadOS devices there are no MDM provided controls. For customers looking for control on BYO or non-supervised devices, we support Intune MAM controls on both managed and unmanaged devices.”
What features can it control?
The tools give admins the power to disable use of the following Apple Intelligence services:
Genmoji
Image Playground
Image Wand
Personalized handwriting
Writing tools
Math Notes Mode, including controls to limit access from other apps.
InTune can also automate devices so they skip Apple Intelligence setup when preparing a new Appe device.
Finally, InTune can also manage which Apple Intelligence tools can be accessed from third party apps. This extends to permitting use of Writing Tools only within certain apps.
