Apple Original Films announces sequel to ‘The Family Plan,’ starring Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg will produce and reprise his role as Dan Morgan in Apple Original Films’ sequel to “The Family Plan.”

Apple Original Films on Wednesday announced a sequel is in the works for its global hit film “The Family Plan,” with Mark Wahlberg set to produce and reprise his role as Dan Morgan, and Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby all returning to star. Simon Cellan Jones will also return as director of the action-comedy feature from Skydance Media. “The Family Plan” premiered as the most-watched film on Apple TV+ following its debut last year.

“I am beyond excited to step back into the shoes of Dan Morgan again, alongside my brilliant co-stars and with Simon and David returning,” said producer and star Mark Wahlberg in a statement. “Making ‘The Family Plan’ and seeing it become an instant success with global audiences in the way that it did has been incredibly rewarding. We can’t wait to collaborate with our partners at Apple and Skydance again on this next chapter for the Morgan family as their European holiday inevitably goes awry.”

“I’m thrilled to be back with the Morgans as they tear through Europe in search of the perfect action-packed family Christmas,” said director Simon Cellan Jones in a statement.

David Coggeshall, the writer of the first movie, has returned to pen “The Family Plan” sequel, which takes place during Christmas in Europe. Dan has planned the perfect vacation for the Morgans, but his past continues to haunt them in unexpected ways.

An Apple Original Film hailing from Skydance Media, the sequel to “The Family Plan” will be directed by Cellan Jones. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson through Municipal Pictures. John G. Scotti will executive produce along with Cellan Jones.

“The Family Plan” sequel joins other upcoming Apple Original Films produced by Skydance Media, including the high-action, genre-bending film “The Gorge,” starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy; “Fountain of Youth,” the upcoming star-studded feature from Guy Ritchie, starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski; action-adventure film “May Day,” with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh set to star in the lead roles; “Way of the Warrior Kid,” the inspiring new film directed by McG and starring and produced by Chris Pratt; and “Matchbox,” the live-action feature based on Mattel’s iconic toy vehicle line, directed by Sam Hargrave and starring John Cena.

Momentum around the Apple Original Films slate continues to grow, with Apple TV+ recently premiering worldwide streaming hits, “Wolfs,” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and “The Instigators,” starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. Coming up, Apple Original Films will debut Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen’s “Blitz,” set to release in select theaters on November 1, 2024 before streaming globally on Apple TV+ on November 22, 2024; “The Gorge,” a high-action, genre-bending love story starring Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver; and the highly anticipated “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, from director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, premiering in theaters on June 25, 2025.
