Foreign smartphone sales sink in China for 4th straight month
Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro’s and iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 48MP Fusion camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, and 5x Telephoto camera.
November shipments of foreign-branded smartphones, including Apple’s iPhones, to China dropped 47.4% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of decline, according to data released Friday by a Chinese Communist Party-affiliated research firm.
Calculations based on the data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that foreign brand shipments, the majority of which are Apple iPhones, decreased to 3.04 million units from 5.769 million units a year earlier.
Reuters:
Chinese consumer prices fell in November to their lowest in five months, as economic uncertainty and deflation concerns weigh on household spending.
Apple launched a rare four-day promotion in China on Thursday, cutting prices by up to 500 yuan ($68.50) on its flagship models to boost sales.
Shipments of phones within China, which include domestic brands, fell 5.1% year-on-year in November to 29.61 million handsets.
MacDailyNews Take: The late-December-early January pump and dump ahead of earnings is in full operation.
“China concerns” have long been a favorite theme for those looking to knock down AAPL.
For example, here’s how 2024’s “knock it down, accumulate, profit” story unfolded:
• Apple’s iPhone, other foreign smartphone sales in China drop 44.25% YoY in October – November 27, 2024
• IDC: Apple iPhone is No.1 in China smartphone market for first time ever – January 25, 2024
• Apple beats the Street on top and bottom lines – February 1, 2024
As we’ve long said, Wall Street is a game: play it well or don’t play it at all. – MacDailyNews, March 20, 2007 (on which day AAPL closed at the split-adjusted price of $2.79 per share)
