Apple signs lease, plans major expansion in Seattle
Apple is planning a major expansion in Seattle, marking the city’s largest new office space lease since 2019, according to a report from investment management company Colliers.
Colliers reports the tech giant made a direct deal with the landlord for the nearly 193,000-square-foot space at Arbor Blocks West in South Lake Union. Meta reportedly terminated its lease early to make way for Apple.
Like a lot of downtown employers, they’ve made it clear they value in-person collaboration, and the neighborhood stands to benefit,” stated James Sido with the Downtown Seattle Association. “Companies locating downtown brings more foot traffic for small businesses, arts and culture, entertainment and helps fill new public spaces, with the neighborhood vibrancy elevated in the process.”
The tech company’s move is encouraging for the city, too, where approximately 30-percent of office space is vacant, according to a new report from Colliers.
“I would say the biggest hurdles are return to office policies, and frankly, motivating employees to come back downtown voluntarily,” Colliers Puget Sound Executive Managing Director Scott Blankenship added.
