Apple may soon unveil its first true home automation command center
Apple has endorsed the idea of a “home hub” within its ecosystem of products via devices like the HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or an iPad, each of which can serve as a home hub. Essentially, a home hub enables you to manage your smart home gadgets remotely, execute automations, and enjoy additional conveniences.
However, being designated as a home hub does not imply that it acts as the ultimate central controller for all smart home functions. The rumored “HomePad,” in contrast, will redefine what a “home hub” means by acting as the physical command center for engaging with smart home devices, setting a new standard for home automation interaction.
Ryan Christoffel for 9to5Mac:
The original HomePod was pitched as being such a device, but controlling home accessories through it depends entirely on Siri.
Whether you’ve had good or bad experiences with Siri, it’s still not good enough. Siri on HomePod makes an insufficient smart home ‘command center’ for one reason: it’s voice only.
With the HomePad, however, users will be able to view and control all their smart home accessories both with Siri and on a touch display… [N]ever before has Apple offered a screen that’s dedicated to being a home hub, a command center for your smart home.
MacDailyNews Take: Priced right, this “HomePad” will appeal to a much wider swatch of consumers and help Apple take the lead in home automation.
