Apple may expand its iPhone assembly plans in Brazil to work around Trump’s tariffs

Apple is considering expanding the assembly of iPhones in Brazil to get around the US tariffs imposed by President Trump last week.

The Brazilian magazine exame says the possibility of expanding manufacturing in Brazil began to be studied last year, with updates to machinery and industrial processes. Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn already assembles the base models of the iPhone 13, 14, 15 and recently received authorization to manufacture the iPhone 16.

Brazilian approval, at the moment, covers only the base model, while the most advanced models, such as the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, continue to be imported. Still, the national infrastructure can gain prominence if Apple needs to redistribute its global production to reduce tariff costs, added exame.
