According to The Information, Apple intends to boost iPhone production in India by approximately 10% in 2025, as reported by a source within the company’s supply chain. Currently, Apple assembles between 30 and 40 million iPhones each year in India. This planned expansion aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its manufacturing base and decrease dependence on China, which still handles roughly 80% of global iPhone production. The move underscores Apple’s belated efforts to diversify its supply chain resilience amid geopolitical and economic shifts.

Investing.com:

Apple has faced recent hurdles in its shift to India. According to the report, Chinese authorities earlier this year blocked the export of key manufacturing equipment to India, prompting one of Apple’s Chinese suppliers to reroute the machinery via a front company in Southeast Asia.

Despite such challenges, Apple continues to expand operations in India, working with partners like Foxconn and Tata Group.

The company’s long-term goal is reportedly to move about half of its iPhone production out of China.
