Japanese chipmaker wants to power Apple’s AI server farms
A Japanese chipmaker — Rapidus, a semiconductor startup, wants to power Apple’s future artificial intelligence server farms.
Nikkei Asia says the company is negotiating with Apple, Google, and “dozens” of other potential client to mass-produce advanced seminconductor chips by 2027. Rapidus CEo Atsuyoshi Koike says a prototype hip line began partial operating last week in Hokkaido and should be up and running within a month. He added that the company will be able to show potential customers the data on the chips it’s fabricated by mid-July at the latest
Rapidus was founded in August 2022. According to its website, its principal businesses are:
Research, development, design, manufacturing, and sales of leading-edge semiconductors and advanced packaging services.
Operation of environmentally focused, energy-saving foundry.
Development of the new generation of human talent responsible for semiconductor design, fabrication and packaging.
