Apple iPhone No.1 in global smartphone sales in Q1
Apple claimed the lead in global smartphone sales for Q1, driven by the iPhone 16e launch and robust demand in Japan and India, according to Counterpoint Research.
Holding a 19% market share, Apple outpaced Samsung — despite the fact that Samsung ships low- and mid-range phones, unlike Apple — with 18%, even in the face of stagnant or falling sales in the U.S., Europe, and China.
Strong iPhone demand persists in emerging markets, though competition from Huawei and absent AI features weakened sales in China.
Counterpoint predicts a market decline this year due to tariff uncertainties, with Xiaomi maintaining third place, followed by Vivo in fourth and OPPO in fifth.
