Apple has applied for a patent (number 20200351581) dubbed “Enhancing a Listening Experience by Adjusting Physical Attributes of an Audio Playback System Based on Detected Environmental Attributes of the System’s Environment.”

It relates to enhancing a listening experience for various electronic devices. Apple says the quality of the listening experience is often diminished by variables in the device’s environment. The idea is for an Apple device and HomePod to work in tandem to detect the shape and size of a room, as well as the distance the user is from the smart speaker, and adjust the audio output, accordingly.
