[prMac.com] Perg, Austria – Ergonis Software today released PopChar X 9.3, an update to the recent major release of the company’s award-winning tool for finding and inserting special characters and exploring fonts.
PopChar X 9.3 supports Unicode 14.0, the most recent update to the Unicode Standard. Unicode 14.0 adds 838 characters, for a total of 144,697 characters. Among the new characters are 37 new emoji code points, with all 112 new emojis (including sequences for skin tones). The additions include 5 new scripts, for a total of 159 scripts, as well as 37 new emoji characters. According to the Unicode Consortium, the new scripts and characters in version 14.0 add support for lesser-used languages and unique written requirements worldwide, including numerous symbols additions.
The new Unicode standard has been defined only recently, and fonts that fully support it have yet to be developed. Full support for Unicode 14.0 and Emoji 14.0 is expected to be included in one of the next updates to macOS Monterey, and PopChar X 9.3 is already prepared for that.
PopChar X 9.3 further contains metrics adjustments for various styles of the system font in Big Sur and Monterey and is built with the latest compiler and libraries to make it a first-class citizen on Apple’s latest macOS version Monterey (12.0).
