Argentina’s President Javier Milei is set to meet with Apple CEO Tim Cook and other top-level executives from Open AI, Google, and Meta during a trip to the United States this week, his spokesman Manuel Adorni said on Monday.

The monthly inflation rate in Argentina was 25% in December when Milei first took office. Following his campaign promises, Milei significantly reduced spending with major cuts to public-sector wages as he suspended public works projects and cut subsidies. Monthly inflation in Argentina dropped to 8.8% by April, marking the first single-digit inflation rate in over six months.

Argentina recorded a $589 million budget surplus in January and continued to post a surplus for each of the first four months of 2024, marking the country’s first quarterly surplus since 2008.

Mar Centenera for El País:

Milei is a follower of the Austrian School, a school of thought founded by Carl Menger at the end of the 19th century, which places individual freedom as the basis of progress and maintains that the state should stay away from the economic decisions of individuals. “The state is a criminal organization,” Milei affirmed on March 1, in his opening speech to the 2024-2025 legislative session.

Milei considers himself to be an anarcho-capitalist at heart, but a minarchist in practice: that is, he believes that state functions should be limited to justice and security.

“The last 20 years have been an economic disaster, an orgy of public spending, uncontrolled [spending] that resulted in the worst inheritance that any government in Argentine history has ever received,” he told Argentine legislators earlier this month.

Libertarian Milei is set to travel to San Francisco late on Monday and stay through Friday, during which time he is set to meet Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Apple CEO Timothy Cook and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

He will also speak at the Bay Area Council’s Pacific Summit and Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, a think tank which promotes limited government, and meet with the university’s chancellor and the think tank’s director, Condoleezza Rice… Milei is also scheduled to meet with economists from the think tank as well as investors and entrepreneurs linked to artificial intelligence (AI).

Milei met Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Texas in April, when they discussed a variety of topics, from the need to boost declining birthrates worldwide to pursuing technological development and defending “liberty.”
